Usually, Mikael Simpsons never celebrates his birthday, but this year it will be different. The beloved and critically acclaimed musician and radio host turns 50, and on that occasion he fires up a big musical birthday party entitled "The Big Day" at the new venue Poolen on Refshaleøen on Saturday 31 August.
He celebrates the anniversary in the company of a bunch of musical playmates. As he himself puts it:
"There will be soul mates on stage and a lot of other lovely people who are good at playing music and fun to party with. Danish and foreign names, you can certainly get your boogie on".
Aftenens vært, Hypnotisør Jan Hellesøe, vil på behagelig vis føre gæsterne gennem aftenens musikalske udskejelser.
First announced act is French Bertrand Belin, known for his sophisticated singer/songwriter pop. Belin is a true multi-artist with a long and recognized career in his home country. He has released a number of albums since 2005 (most recently the excellent "Tambour Vision" in 2022), wrote texts for e.g. Vanessa Paradis and composed music for a number of films and TV series, just as he has also worked as an actor and written three books. Here at home, however, he is a bit of a cult name, and the birthday party in August will therefore be an exclusive opportunity to experience him live here at home.
Mikael Simpson debuted in 2002 with the classic "Os 2 + Litt ro 2002", which with its mix of singer/songwriter and electronic bedroom productions has formed a school here at home. He has released a total of four studio albums, several compilation and remix albums, was part of the style-creating indie band Luksus and worked together and toured with e.g. Jørgen Leth, Trentemøller, Lulu Rouge and Peter Sommer. More names for "The Big Day" will be announced soon.
