"Stranger Things"-star throws psychedelic pop party at Poolen

Joe Keery, who plays one of the main roles in the popular Netflix-series Stranger Things, comes to Denmark under his musical alias Djo and performs at Poolen on 10 June.

Many know Joe Keery as the character Steve Harrington in the Netflix hit "Stranger Things". But fewer people know that in addition to being an excellent actor, he is also an equally terrific musician.

Before Keery broke through as an actor, he was the guitarist and drummer of the psychedelic indie rock band Post Animal, with whom he released two albums from 2015-2018. However, as the acting career swallowed up more and more time, he left the group. But the desire to make music did not stop.

During the recording of "Stranger Things", he built his own home studio in his rented house in Atlanta, where he delved into synthesizers, plugins and guitar effects, and the result was released in 2019 in the form of the solo debut "Twenty Twenty", released under the alias Djo. A formidable album full of gloriously round bedroom pop that sends loving nods to Tame Impala, Ariel Pink and Mac DeMarco. NME then also awarded the record with 4 out of 5 stars.

In 2022, Keery was ready with the follow-up "Decide", where compared to the guitar-based sound of the debut, he dives deeper into the synthetic sound world of the synthesizer. The critics welcomed the album positively, which received great reviews from e.g. Clash Music, Under The Radar and The Line Of Best Fit. "Decide" also secured Keery his first Billboard placement, when the album entered as number 56 on the American album chart, just as it achieved solid placements on e.g. the German, Canadian and Dutch album charts.

In 2024, the "Decide" single "End of Beginning" - two years after it was originally released - went viral on TikTok and subsequently became such a massive hit that the track was at one point the fourth most played track on Spotify globally. In this connection, Joe Keery stated to DR that he "would love to tour Europe. It has always been one of my big dreams". That dream will come true this summer, when Djo gives a concert in Poolen on June 10.
