Cory Wong

Cory Wong hosts a giant funk party at Poolen

Cory Wong, like Prince, was born in Minneapolis – and it doesn't seem completely coincidental. Because the American guitarist, songwriter and producer has been bitten by the same funk bug as his late compatriot. Wong has also performed several times for jam sessions with the purple legend's backing band.

Like Prince, Cory Wong is a true virtuoso on the six-string. His playing style oozes exuberance and he can move his fingers on the fretboard faster than his own shadow. Musically, his tracks are an exquisite mix of 70's funk, vintage soul and fusion jazz, sounding like Stevie Wonder, Bruno Mars and Tower of Power in a fierce instrumental infighting. His tracks are catchy, playful, dynamic – and always funky!

In addition to a brilliant solo career with an extensive discography - most recently the studio album "Lucky One" (2023) and the live album "Live in London" from this year - Wong is a regular collaborator on the renowned and popular funk band Vulfpeck's album recordings and tours. How much value they place on his phenomenal musical abilities is underlined by the fact that they have named their best-known track "Cory Wong" after him!

In addition to a stream of solo and live albums, Cory Wong has, among other things, released the album "Golden Hour" (2021) with star saxophonist Dave Koz, a joint album with Swedish jazz group Dirty Loops and worked with soul star John Batiste on his Grammy-nominated album "Meditations" (2020). Live, there is a party guaranteed when Cory Wong performs. He himself describes his role on stage as a hype man on a mission to give the audience the best possible concert experience! Enthusiastic concertgoers could testify to that when in 2023 he captivated a completely sold-out Store VEGA. Now even more people will have the opportunity to enjoy the terrific funk master when he gives his biggest Danish concert to date in Poolen on Refshaleøen on 30 January 2025.
